Our Affiliation with the United Methodist Church

Schmitt Woodland Hills is proud of its roots in the healing and caring ministries. Established in 1965 from a bequest to the United Methodist Church by William and Oda Schmitt of Richland Center, the Schmitt Woodland Hills Retirement Community was established to "offer older persons a continuum of quality services and facilities with a Christian philosophy." Though we are an independent non-denominational facility, Schmitt Woodland Hills continues an affiliation with the United Methodist Church.

Nationally, the United Methodist Church is affiliated with and helps provide support to 68 youth and family service agencies, 53 hospitals and health care systems, 104 community service programs, 155 older adult ministries, and 5 ministries for persons with disabilities. In Wisconsin the denomination is involved with 10 organizations which it helped start as part of the Wesleyan tradition of responding to the social gospel. Many individual congregations continue to actively support these local mission ministries with their time and talents. The Schmitt Woodland Hills Retirement Community is grateful to have its roots in the United Methodist Church. We seek to maintain the denominational connection by including United Methodist clergy as ex-officio members of our Board of Directors, encouraging their volunteer participation, and welcoming their financial support.
